Which mattress size fits your bedroom?
Measure the room, the bed frame and the route into your home before you shop. Leave usable space beside the bed and in front of drawers and doors. Mattress size is not the same as the bed frame's overall footprint.
| Size | Inches | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Twin | 38 × 75 | A narrower option for one sleeper; check length for taller users. |
| Twin XL | 38 × 80 | The width of a twin with more length; check frame compatibility. |
| Full | 54 × 75 | More width than a twin, with the same nominal length. |
| Queen | 60 × 80 | The most common choice for shared beds or a roomy single bed. |
| King | 76 × 80 | More width than a queen; allow space for the frame and walkways. |
| California king | 72 × 84 | Longer and narrower than a standard king; needs a matching frame. |
Nominal dimensions vary slightly by manufacturer. A standard king is wider than a California king; a California king is longer. Confirm the exact model specifications, mattress height and size availability before ordering.
Compare mattress construction
Construction and firmness are separate choices. Two mattresses with the same type label can feel completely different depending on their comfort layers and materials.
Memory foam
Contours closely to the body and absorbs partner movement well. Sleeps warmer than coils unless the model uses gel or open-cell foam, and it takes a little more effort to change position.
Hybrid
A pocketed-coil support core with foam or latex comfort layers on top. The usual compromise: the contouring of foam with the bounce, airflow and edge support of coils.
Innerspring
Coils with cushioning above them. The most responsive and breathable construction, and usually the lowest price, with less motion isolation than foam. Ask a showroom which innerspring models are on the floor this week.
Adjustable bases
Raises the head or foot of a compatible mattress. Verify the mattress model, size, frame clearance, electrical needs and the manufacturer's support requirements before pairing.

Which firmness should you choose?
Firmness follows your sleeping position more than anything else. Use this as a starting point, then lie on the mattress in your actual sleeping position for at least five minutes.
Side sleepers
Medium-soft to medium. The shoulder and hip need to sink in enough for the spine to stay level; too firm and you wake with shoulder or hip pressure.
Back sleepers
Medium-firm. Enough give at the lumbar curve to keep contact, enough support that the hips do not drop below the shoulders.
Stomach sleepers
Firm. A soft mattress lets the hips sink and arches the lower back, which is the most common cause of morning back pain in stomach sleepers.
Couples in different positions
Medium-firm is the usual middle ground. Try it together: check usable width, how much you feel the other person turn, and how the edge holds when you sit down to put shoes on.
Firmness labels are not consistent across brands — one company's “medium” is another's “plush.” That is exactly why trying them in a showroom beats ordering blind.
What should you expect to spend?
Price tracks materials and construction more than brand name. As a rough guide for a queen:
- Entry level. Basic innerspring or a thin all-foam mattress. Fine for a guest room, a bunk bed or a short-term apartment; it will not hold up to ten years of nightly use.
- Mid range. Where most people should be shopping. Better foam densities, pocketed coils, real edge support, a warranty that means something.
- Premium. Latex, high-density foams, zoned coil systems, cooling covers. Worth it if you sleep hot, have a specific support need, or simply want the mattress to last longer.
Two things matter more than the number: spend proportionally on the support layers rather than the pillow-top, and budget for the foundation the mattress requires — a good mattress on the wrong base wears out early and can void the warranty. Our showroom team will tell you which models are being cleared this week, which is usually where the value is.
Plan the whole bed, not just the mattress
- Support: check whether the model needs a compatible foundation, platform, slats or adjustable base, and follow the manufacturer's warranty requirements.
- Height: add the mattress and base heights together to see how high the finished sleeping surface will sit.
- Included pieces: a mattress is almost never included in a bedroom set's price — verify before ordering.
- Total cost: include the mattress, required support, tax and any delivery or setup charges.

Common mattress shopping questions
How do I find a Half Price Furniture mattress store near me?
All five showrooms carry mattresses: North Rainbow (3130 N Rainbow Blvd), West Charleston (4449 W Charleston Blvd), South Rainbow (3625 S Rainbow Blvd #100), East Desert Inn (2488 E Desert Inn Rd) and North Nellis (163 N Nellis Blvd). Pick the closest and call ahead to confirm the model and size you want to try.
Are you open on Sunday? What time do you close?
Yes — all five showrooms are open seven days a week, including Sunday, from 10 AM to 7 PM. North Rainbow opens earlier, at 9 AM, Monday through Saturday. Holiday hours can differ.
Can I buy a mattress and take it home the same day?
Often, yes. Mattresses on the floor and in stock can go home with you the day you buy them, and pickup is at our North Rainbow location. Same-day delivery may also be available on qualifying in-stock orders placed early in the day. Call first to confirm the exact size and model is in stock.
What is a reasonable price to pay for a good mattress?
For a queen, most shoppers should be looking in the mid range rather than at the cheapest option — that is where you start getting better foam densities, pocketed coils and real edge support. Spend on the support layers rather than the pillow-top, and budget for the foundation the mattress requires. Ask the showroom which models are currently being cleared; that is usually where the value sits.
How often should you replace a mattress?
Most mattresses need replacing somewhere between seven and ten years. The calendar matters less than the signs: a visible dip or body impression, waking stiff when you do not on other beds, or sleeping noticeably better away from home. A sagging mattress is worth replacing regardless of its age.
Is it better to buy a mattress in store or online?
Firmness labels are not standardised, so “medium” from one brand feels like “plush” from another. Lying on a mattress for five minutes tells you more than any review. Buying in a showroom also means no waiting for a bed-in-a-box to expand, and you can compare three or four models against each other in one visit.
What is the difference between a queen and a king mattress?
A standard US queen is approximately 60 by 80 inches; a standard king is approximately 76 by 80 inches. A king adds 16 inches of width, not length. Check the bed frame's outer dimensions and your walkway space before ordering.
Is a California king bigger than a king?
Not overall — it is a different shape. A California king is about 72 by 84 inches; a standard king is about 76 by 80 inches. The California king is four inches longer and four inches narrower, so it suits taller sleepers and narrower rooms. It needs its own frame and sheets.
How should I choose mattress firmness?
Follow your sleeping position: side sleepers generally want medium-soft to medium, back sleepers medium-firm, stomach sleepers firm. Then test it — lie in your usual position for at least five minutes, turn over, and sit on the edge to check how it holds.
Do I need a box spring or an adjustable base?
It depends on the mattress and the bed frame. Check the manufacturer's foundation and slat-spacing requirements, because using the wrong support can void the warranty. An adjustable base must be compatible with both the mattress model and its size.
Is a mattress included with a bedroom set?
Almost never. Mattresses shown in bedroom-set photos are for display only unless the listing explicitly says otherwise. Check the list of included pieces for the exact set before ordering.
Does Half Price Furniture deliver mattresses in Las Vegas?
Yes, throughout Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Green Valley, Anthem, Summerlin and Centennial Hills. Free doorstep delivery is available across the Las Vegas valley; in-home delivery and setup is $49 on purchases of $500 or less, $99 on $500.01–$999.99, and $149 on $1,000 or more. Confirm coverage, timing and charges for your address with the showroom before purchasing.
Do you take away my old mattress?
Ask the showroom when you book delivery — old-mattress removal is a separate service from delivery and setup, and availability depends on your order and address. Settle it before the truck is scheduled rather than on the day.
¿Venden colchones? ¿Hablan español?
Sí. Vendemos colchones en las cinco tiendas de Las Vegas, abiertas los siete días de la semana de 10 AM a 7 PM. Tenemos personal que habla español — llame a la tienda de East Desert Inn al 702-992-3259.
What should I ask about returns and mattress warranties?
Ask for the return or exchange terms for that exact mattress, any conditions or fees, the manufacturer's warranty length, and what support the warranty requires. Do not assume every mattress includes a sleep trial or comfort exchange — confirm it in writing before you pay.
Ready to compare your options?
